Visit by Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of La Francophonie
On the evening of his return from Berlin, Alain Berset receives Louise Mushikiwabo at the University of Fribourg; she was re-elected head of the International Organisation of La Francophonie at the Djerba summit in November 2022. Switzerland is the OIF’s third-largest donor, on a par with the Wallonia-Brussels Federation; its statutory contribution is 4.1 million francs in 2023.
Louise Mushikiwabo presents the next stage of her reform and her vision of a Francophonie that is “connected, competitive and united”. Alain Berset confirms Swiss support and proposes extending cooperation to support for electoral processes and to the international governance of digital technology, drawing on International Geneva. He also proposes deepening joint work on multilingualism.
