Swiss Art Awards and Swiss Grand Award for Art / Prix Meret Oppenheim
On the sidelines of Art Basel, Alain Berset presents the Swiss Art Awards 2023 and pays tribute to the winners of the Swiss Grand Award for Art / Prix Meret Oppenheim: the artist Uriel Orlow, the art historian Stanislaus von Moos and the collective Parity Group. Eleven art awards of 25,000 francs each are presented, two of them in architecture (Bastian Marzoli, Claire Logoz).
He starts from a question: “Stehen wir an der Schwelle zu einer neuen Aufklärung?” Distrust of science, the search for scapegoats, artificial intelligence: there is no alternative to critical thinking, and art trains it. “Ohne das Multiperspektivische wird Kunst provinziell – und ohne Vielstimmigkeit verkümmert die Demokratie.”
In French, he presents the 2025–2028 culture dispatch, put out for consultation three days earlier. The coronavirus crisis exposed the precarious position of many artists; the Confederation now requires fair pay for everyone involved in the projects it supports, in line with the recommendations of the professional associations.
