40 years of Fri-Son
22 September 2023
The Fribourg concert venue Fri-Son celebrates its 40th anniversary. Alain Berset speaks there, on the evening of his meeting with Albin Kurti in Berne.
His speech is a mock palaeontology lesson: “1983: discovery, in Switzerland, in Fribourg, of Homo Fri-Sonus”. He recalls the origins: the 1981 Fri-Art exhibition, born in opposition to the conventional celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Fribourg’s entry into the Confederation, and punk. And Kurt Cobain’s visit, on 25 November 1989. For him, the hyphen in “Fri-Son” is a bridge between French and German speakers. He thanks the first generation, “practically without resources”, and hopes for more support for the next ones.
