Opening of the Building Bridges summit on sustainable finance

Alain Berset opens the Building Bridges summit at the CICG in Geneva, after an introduction by Patrick Odier, who chairs the foundation. Two weeks earlier, he was at the summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in New York. His finding: only a fraction of the 2015 commitments will be met. “It is a question of political will.”

More than 80% of the 2030 Agenda targets are stagnating or going backwards; private capital must be steered towards these goals, above all in the least developed countries. He cites the Swiss Climate Scores, the climate law accepted in June, the new strategy of the Private Infrastructure Development Group. For the first time, the conference hosts the UNFCCC Sharm el-Sheikh dialogue on financial flows. He then stays on for Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the WTO, and Sergio Ermotti, CEO of UBS.
