Celebration for Eric Nussbaumer and Eva Herzog, presidents of the chambers
6 December 2023
The two Basels celebrate their Social Democrat representatives, elected on 4 December: Eric Nussbaumer as President of the National Council, Eva Herzog as President of the Council of States. A procession and ceremony in the church in Liestal, boats on the Rhine to Basel, crowds on the Marktplatz.
At the Casino in Basel, Alain Berset gives a speech full of humour in praise of the two half-cantons. He cites Erasmus, the Bernoullis, Leonhard Euler: “So many geniuses in a single place. We don’t really have that problem in Berne.”
