Official visit to Romania
A visit to Romania, which will hold the presidency of the Council of the EU for the first time from January 2019. It is the first bilateral presidential visit since 2011. At the Cotroceni Palace, Alain Berset discusses with President Klaus Iohannis the institutional agreement under negotiation between Switzerland and the EU, the integration of the Western Balkans and the second Swiss enlargement contribution.
In the afternoon, he meets Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă. In his toast, he marks the centenary of the Great Union of 1918, recalls the artistic ties between the two countries, from Tristan Tzara to Daniel Spoerri, born in Galați, and wishes success to the European summit in Sibiu. The day before, he had visited the Muzeul de Artă Recentă and met Romanian artists.
