Opening of the 50th Visions du Réel
5 April 2019
Alain Berset opens the 50th edition of the documentary film festival in Nyon, with the President of the Vaud Council of State, Nuria Gorrite, the mayor, Daniel Rossellat, the festival president, Claude Ruey, and the artistic director, Emilie Bujès.
He compares the history of the festival to growing up: born in 1969 under a purely descriptive name, it became “Visions du Réel” in 1995, like a teenager who chooses concepts. He speaks of the therapeutic effect of documentary: by escaping into the reality of others, one becomes aware of one’s own. He pays tribute to Claude Ruey, the outgoing president.
