Coronavirus: meeting of health ministers of Italy’s neighbouring countries

The virus is spreading in Lombardy and Veneto. The Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, brings together his counterparts from neighbouring countries in Rome: Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, with the European Commissioner Stella Kyriakides. The same day, Switzerland announces its first confirmed case.
The ministers adopt a six-point joint declaration: keep borders open, as closure is judged disproportionate; harmonise information for travellers; exchange medical and epidemiological data; hold regular conference calls; decide case by case on cancelling major events.
