Opening of the 70th World Health Assembly
22 May 2017 - 23 May 2017
In Geneva, Alain Berset opens the 70th World Health Assembly. What is at stake in the session: the election of Margaret Chan’s successor at the head of WHO — Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is elected on 23 May — and the 2018-2019 budget.
His speech starts from the motto in the dome of the Federal Palace, “One for all, all for one”, and calls for the 2030 Agenda to be made the common framework for health ministers.
With the Canadian minister Jane Philpott, he co-chairs an event on attacks on health workers and health facilities, organised with MSF, the ICRC and the World Medical Association.
