National meeting on equal pay in the public sector
Alain Berset opens the national meeting of municipal, cantonal and federal executives on equal pay in public administration and public procurement. He stresses the public sector’s role as a model: the Confederation, the cantons and the communes must step up their efforts and send a clear signal to all employers.
The figures on the table: in 2012, women employed in the public sector earn 13.6% less than men, 18.9% less in the private sector. According to an IDHEAP report, 64% of cantonal and communal administrations say they check their pay practices or intend to do so; only eleven monitor public procurement.
In his address: “The aim is to make Article 8, paragraph 3 of the Constitution more than a pious wish… a reality.” The President of the Conference of Cantonal Governments, Jean-Michel Cina, undertakes to raise awareness among the cantons.
