National Day of Primary Care Medicine

Before family doctors, students and junior doctors, Alain Berset takes Leonardo da Vinci as the model of the generalist. Today, 900,000 medical articles are published every year: enough to push even Leonardo into specialisation. His formula: “Die Generalisten sind die Spezialisten für das Allgemeine.”

Primary care medicine, he says, must be reinvented and made more attractive, because its practitioners are often the only ones with an overall view of the patient. Back to the Hippocratic corpus: health is an overall balance.
