2nd Summit of the European Political Community
At Mimi Castle in Bulboaca, some twenty kilometres from the Ukrainian border, the leaders of almost the entire continent hold the second summit of the European Political Community; only Russia and Belarus are not invited. Alain Berset represents Switzerland. The venue, he says, is a sign of solidarity with Ukraine and “ein sehr starkes Signal der Unterstützung für Moldau”.
After the family photo, he speaks briefly with Volodymyr Zelensky. He tells SRF that Ukraine knows the Swiss position: adoption of all sanctions against Russia, humanitarian aid, reception of refugees, the Lugano conference on reconstruction. They also discuss the military situation and the Federal Council’s agreement to decommission 25 Leopard 2 tanks with a view to their resale to Germany.
“Hier zu sein und Einigkeit zu demonstrieren, ist sehr wichtig.” He argues for linking the European Political Community with the continent’s other forums, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
