Official visit by the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi

The first official visit by a Mozambican head of state since 2009. Alain Berset welcomes Filipe Nyusi with military honours at the Lohn estate. Ignazio Cassis takes part in the talks; on the Mozambican side, the ministers of foreign affairs and of industry.

The two foreign ministers sign an international cooperation agreement, which sets the framework for Swiss humanitarian, technical and financial aid. Mozambique has been a priority country for Swiss cooperation since 1979. Since 2016, Switzerland has chaired the contact group supporting the peace process between the government and Renamo; Alain Berset welcomes the progress made. “A 40-year friendship unites Switzerland and Mozambique”, he tells the press.
