Opening of the 20th Swiss Economic Forum
Alain Berset opens the 20th Swiss Economic Forum, the national gathering of SMEs. Digitalisation runs through his whole speech. He opens with humour: if robots govern one day, will they find their own “reset” button? Then he praises the “professionelle Unaufgeregtheit” of SMEs, which have weathered the strong franc.
His appeal: a culture of failure. “Fail better”, even “fail best”. “Wir sollten weniger Energie in die Fehlervermeidung investieren, dafür mehr in Kreativität.” Switzerland is well placed for the digital age, he says, but the process will be “disruptiv, technisch aber auch politisch”. Questioned afterwards by Susanne Wille, he returns to the failure of the pension reform: “Es ist völlig normal, dass grosse Projekte ab und zu scheitern.”
