Opening of the 32nd Fribourg International Film Festival
Alain Berset opens the 32nd FIFF before a packed house, with Georges Godel, President of the Council of State, François Nordmann, President of the association, and Artistic Director Thierry Jobin, who places this edition under the sign of courage. Opening film: “Makala” by Emmanuel Gras, a Swiss premiere.
The speech plays on numerology: the number 32 is said to be a bad omen. The President shows the opposite, in seven points: the FIFF is always “a little ahead”. On women directors, whom it celebrated long before the MeToo movement; on talent, from Raoul Peck to Apichatpong Weerasethakul; on its ties with Cannes. “The FIFF, a festival that makes Fribourg shine in the world and brings the world into Fribourg minds.”
