Opening of the Images Vevey festival
8 September 2018
Alain Berset opens the Images Vevey photography biennial. “Only in the world of photography can one, when invited to give a speech, speak freely of negatives and trials.”
With no overhead projector, requisitioned, he says, by Guy Parmelin, he describes seven pictures from memory: the bathers suspended above the lake, a bare tree on a façade, a photographer in a temple, binoculars pointed at North Korea, “Think of Switzerland”, Joachim Schmid’s selfies, Le Corbusier’s Villa Le Lac in Corseaux with Juergen Teller and Erwin Wurm. He also recalls René Burri and Werner Bischof.
