Press conference: yes to the constitutional article on family policy

The first major campaign event of the year. On behalf of the Federal Council, Alain Berset recommends accepting the new Article 115a of the Constitution, put to the vote on 3 March. The Confederation and the cantons would promote the reconciliation of family and working life; the cantons would provide enough places in day care and out-of-school care. Failing that, the Confederation could legislate.

At his side, the Solothurn State Councillor Peter Gomm, for the Conference of Cantonal Directors of Social Affairs, recalls that family policy would remain a matter for the cantons. Thérèse Meyer-Kaelin, President of the Federal Coordination Commission for Family Questions, stresses families’ freedom of choice.
