Seminar of the cantonal governments: Old-Age Provision 2020 before the cantons

The ch Foundation brings members of the cantonal governments together in Interlaken for their annual seminar. On the evening of 9 January, Alain Berset speaks at the official dinner. He quotes Aristotle, “das Ganze ist grösser als die Summe seiner Teile”: the formula holds for Switzerland and its twenty-six republics, and he hopes it will hold for Old-Age Provision 2020, a comprehensive reform made up of a sum of reforms.

On 10 January, he presents the reform to the cantonal executives, two months after the opening of the consultation. He compares it to a puzzle whose pieces must all fit together, borrowing a headline from the French-speaking press: “The puzzle is on the table. Now the serious business begins.” His conclusion: “Success will be collective, or it will not be at all.”
