Return to service of the steamship “Rhône”
At Lausanne-Ouchy, Alain Berset attends the return to service of the “Rhône”, a Belle Époque CGN steamer first commissioned in 1927. The renovation took three years and cost 15.8 million francs, shared between the cantons of Vaud, Geneva and Valais, the Confederation and the Association of Friends of the Lake Geneva Steamboats. The Federal Office of Culture contributed.
Alongside him: Nuria Gorrite, President of the Vaud cantonal government, Serge Dal Busco (Geneva), Franz Ruppen (Valais) and Benoît Gaillard, Chairman of CGN. In his speech, he retraces the eventful history of the Lake Geneva fleet. “When we board these marvellous floating machines, we cultivate our relationship with the passing of time.”
