Swiss Film Award 2023: honorary award to Ruth Waldburger
At the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva, Alain Berset presents the Swiss Film Award honorary prize to the producer Ruth Waldburger. With her company Vega Film, she has produced eleven films by Jean-Luc Godard since 1988, but also Alain Tanner, Ursula Meier, Alain Resnais, Leos Carax. “Johnny Suede”, which she co-produced, gave Brad Pitt his first leading role.
He opens his laudatio on “the first Swiss Film Awards of the year 1 after JLG”, a few months after the deaths of Godard and Alain Tanner. He recalls that she started out as a receptionist-trainee with Tanner. In German, he talks about money: the revision of the Film Act, accepted at the ballot box in 2022, requires streaming platforms to invest 4% of their revenue in Swiss production.
The Quartz for best fiction film goes to “Drii Winter” by Michael Koch, that for best documentary to “Cascadeuses” by Elena Avdija.
