Celebration of the inscription of the alpine pasture season on the UNESCO list
7 December 2023
A few days earlier, in Kasane (Botswana), UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee inscribed the alpine pasture season on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The canton of Fribourg celebrates the inscription in Bulle: a day of debates on alpine farming, then an official and musical ceremony at the Hôtel-de-Ville.
Alain Berset first speaks of Bernard Romanens, armailli and soloist of the “Ranz des vaches” at the 1977 Fête des Vignerons, who died in 1984. Then of the figure of the armailli, cheesemaker, singer, “landscape gardener of our Prealps”. He ends with the cows, which have reshaped hills and mountains: “We owe them respect.”
