Celebration of the UNESCO inscription of avalanche risk management

30 November 2018

On 29 November, in Port Louis, UNESCO inscribes avalanche risk management, a joint nomination by Switzerland and Austria, on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The next day, Valais celebrates the inscription at the Arsenaux cultural centre in Sion, with Alain Berset and the President of the Council of State, Esther Waeber-Kalbermatten.

His speech sets Cujo, Stephen King’s rabid St Bernard, against Barry, the dog of the Great St Bernard Hospice, said to have saved some forty people. From the goat horns of the “Woldmannli” of Andermatt to computer readings, he traces knowledge passed down from generation to generation: “the dogs will gradually have been replaced by chips”.
