58th Art Biennale: opening of the Swiss Pavilion
Alain Berset opens the Swiss Pavilion at the 58th Art Biennale, “Moving Backwards”, by Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz, curated by Charlotte Laubard. The pavilion is organised by Pro Helvetia.
He plays on the Biennale’s title, “May you live in interesting times”: in English, “interesting” often means its opposite; in German, an “interesting” idea has no chance of being carried out within fifty years. The word therefore promises diversity and a nuanced view of the present.
On the sidelines, he visits the Russian pavilion with Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets and meets the Chilean Minister of Culture, Consuelo Valdés. On 10 May, he tours the Arsenale and talks with the Swiss artists Christian Marclay and Christoph Büchel.
