72nd Locarno Film Festival
On 7 August, Alain Berset opens the 72nd Locarno Festival. Against Fitzgerald, for whom Switzerland is a country “where very few things begin”, he recalls what began in Locarno: the Czechoslovak New Wave with Miloš Forman in 1964, the debuts of Kathryn Bigelow, Spike Lee, Jim Jarmusch.
On 8 August, before the media, he stresses the weight of international co-productions: 25 Swiss films co-produced in 2018. Future cultural policy will have to take better account of digitalisation and gender equality. On 9 August, he presents the Leopard Club Award to Hilary Swank and speaks at the Monte Verità reception in Ascona.
On 10 August, he meets film professionals, then speaks at the Dîner républicain, where the Slovak President, Zuzana Čaputová, receives the European Prize for Political Culture.
