First WMO High Mountain Summit

In Geneva, Alain Berset opens the first World Meteorological Organization summit on high mountain areas. These regions regulate the freshwater reserves of half the world’s population; in Switzerland, melting glaciers are the most visible effect.

He calls for urgent measures against global warming and for cooperation between politics, business and science. The summit is to set an action plan to improve hydrological, meteorological and climatological data.
