Paris: the Sorbonne and UNESCO

24 October 2019 - 25 October 2019

On 24 October, at the Sorbonne, Alain Berset speaks to students on “Democracy put to the test by fake news”. Disinformation is not new, he says; what changes is how it spreads. And he rejects a state-defined truth: “It is difficult and dangerous to determine administratively what is true or false.”

On 25 October, at UNESCO, he speaks at the international conference of the Architects’ Council of Europe and the International Union of Architects on architectural competitions, following on from the 2018 Davos Declaration. He quotes Le Corbusier and hopes that the quality of building culture will become “a real objective in our society”.

He hands the Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, the instrument of ratification of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage.
