Culture and Economy Forum: crowdfunding

At the Culture and Economy Forum, Alain Berset presents the first study on crowdfunding in the cultural sector in Switzerland, carried out by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. In 2014, nearly 4.5 million francs were raised in this way for cultural projects.

He recalls that the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty was paid for in 1885 by more than 120,000 donors, in response to an appeal by Joseph Pulitzer. Crowdfunding, he says, brings creators closer to their audience and complements public support without replacing it.
