65th Locarno Film Festival

1 August 2012 - 6 August 2012

On the evening of 1 August, Alain Berset opens the 65th Locarno Film Festival in the cloister of the Scuola Magistrale, in French and Italian. He quotes Hermann Hesse on Ticino and makes Locarno, in August, “the true cultural capital of Switzerland”.

On 3 August, at a press conference with Jean-Frédéric Jauslin, Director of the Federal Office of Culture, and Ivo Kummer, Head of the Film Section, he sets out his line: the state provides the framework conditions, without quotas; film policy must “support quality and reward success”. He argues for Switzerland’s participation in the European MEDIA programmes and announces new Swiss Dance Awards from 2013. In the evening, at the Leopard Club, he talks about financing culture, between the state, sponsors and crowdfunding.
