Opening of the Zurich Film Festival
26 September 2013
“Ich freue mich, Ihnen die Filmförderung des Bundes erklären zu können…” Alain Berset breaks off at once: he only wanted to check that people were listening. He recounts being turned away in 1984 at the entrance to the second Indiana Jones film, too young; today he walks on a carpet, green rather than red.
The festival, he says, is not only a glamorous event: boundaries of identity and background are crossed there. He mentions a Japanese documentary in the programme about a company that rents out fake parents; in Switzerland, neither families nor members of the government are for hire: “Ich bin es wirklich selber!”
