60 years of the Swiss National Science Foundation

11 January 2012

Eleven days after taking office, Alain Berset brings the Federal Council’s congratulations to the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) on its 60th anniversary. It is one of his first public appearances as head of the FDHA, then responsible for education and research.

He recalls two figures: Switzerland, together with Finland, is world champion in the number of scientific articles per inhabitant, and second behind the United States for their international recognition. This success, he says, is largely due to the SNSF, which allocates its funds on a single criterion: the quality of the projects and of the researchers.
