Fifth Health2020 National Conference: curbing costs

29 January 2018

More than 300 health policy stakeholders gather in Berne around one question: who bears which responsibility for rising costs? The basis for the work: the 2017 report by international experts and its 38 measures, including a binding cap on cost growth by sector and an “experimental article” in the Health Insurance Act (KVG/LAMal) for pilot projects.

Alain Berset opens with a quotation from the Federal Council’s 1991 dispatch, which already deplored premiums that had become unbearable for some households. Twenty-six years later, the goal of a burden of 6 to 8% of income is still far off. Shrug it off? “Das wäre die Bankrotterklärung der Gesundheitspolitik.” The Federal Council wants to set its priorities in the spring and open a first consultation in the autumn.
