Interpharma’s 90th anniversary
In Basel, Interpharma, the association of Switzerland’s research-based pharmaceutical companies, celebrates its 90th anniversary. Alain Berset speaks as President of the Swiss Confederation and health minister. The American economist Elizabeth Teisberg gives the opening lecture; René Buholzer, Director of Interpharma, names relations with the EU and the slow digitalisation of healthcare as urgent issues.
He does not hide the tension: “Das Verhältnis von Pharmaindustrie und Gesundheitsminister ist ja bekanntlich etwas kompliziert.” He recounts a 1939 quarrel over headache tablets at the Landi pavilion, then: “Willkommen in meiner Welt! Willkommen in der Schweizer Gesundheitspolitik!”
On substance: the price of medicines, which has risen faster than other costs of basic insurance; supply shortages, which the Federal Council is examining; the DigiSanté programme for health data, to be submitted to Parliament in 2024.
