Visit by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi
3 April 2023
Alain Berset receives Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, in Berne. Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider receives him separately. The two men welcome the cooperation between Switzerland and UNHCR, which has its headquarters in Geneva.
Alain Berset stresses the need to tackle what drives people into exile. They discuss Switzerland’s priorities on the Security Council and the second Global Refugee Forum, which Switzerland and UNHCR are organising together in Geneva in December. In 2022, Switzerland’s contribution to UNHCR was 58 million francs, 40% more than the previous year.
