Lecture at the Oxford Union and visit to London
27 October 2023 - 28 October 2023
At the Oxford Union, Alain Berset gives a lecture entitled “The role of Switzerland in a fractured world”, followed by a dialogue and questions from some hundred students. He then meets Swiss students and teachers at the university.
In an interview given the same day to swissinfo.ch, he looks back on the year: the pandemic, the Credit Suisse crisis, the war in Ukraine, the Middle East after the Hamas attacks. “Switzerland is a land without a hidden agenda”, hence its role as a platform for dialogue and mediation. On neutrality, he recalls that Russia’s aggression trampled on every international rule, which justifies adopting the European sanctions. “Fundamentally, I am an optimistic person, but I am not naïve.”
