National Museum: opening of “1900–1914. Expedition into Happiness”

27 March 2014

At the National Museum, Alain Berset opens the exhibition devoted to the years before the First World War. His speech, “Handeln in Zeiten des Umbruchs”, starts from the sinking of the Titanic: everything could have turned out differently.

The exhibition, he says, puts visitors back into the state of not-knowing of the people of the time: history is not read from its outcome. He draws from it a portrait of the era: “Von 1900 bis 1914 hatte der Zeitgeist tatsächlich viel Geist – und wenig Zeit.”
