Opening of the United Nations World Data Forum
3 October 2021 - 6 October 2021
Switzerland hosts the third UN World Data Forum, for the first time in hybrid format: 7,626 registered participants, 668 of them present in Berne. On 3 October, Alain Berset opens it as host; António Guterres and Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, speak by video.
He starts from a quotation attributed to Churchill, about the statistics one has falsified oneself, in order to correct it: in an age of fake news, false figures circulate, distort perception and make rational debate difficult, especially in a pandemic.
The forum closes on 6 October with a compact on data for the Sustainable Development Goals.
