Swiss Music Awards 2023: laudatio for Erik Truffaz
8 September 2023
The Federal Office of Culture’s Swiss Music Awards are presented for the first time in the Grosse Halle of the Reitschule in Berne. The Grand Award goes to the trumpeter Erik Truffaz. Among the winners: Sonja Moonear, Mario Batkovic, Lucia Cadotsch, Saadet Türköz; special awards to Helvetiarockt, Kunstraum Walcheturm and the rapper Pronto.
Alain Berset gives the laudatio. He offers a “grammatical analysis” of the work: the subject, the verb “to jazz”, the complements, from Sophie Hunger to Oxmo Puccino. He quotes Miles Davis: “True music is silence. And all the notes only frame that silence.” At the end of the evening, he sits down at the grand piano for a duet with Truffaz.
