Federal Council outing to the canton of Fribourg
The President of the Swiss Confederation takes the Federal Council to his home canton. The first day is spent in the Gruyère. In Bulle, coffee at the restaurant of the SucréSalé cooperative, which helps disability insurance (IV/AI) recipients back into work; then a meeting with young rock and metal labels at the Ébullition cultural centre, where the Fribourg band Darius plays for the seven Federal Councillors. In Val-de-Charmey, an aperitif with the public and a press statement. Alain Berset recalls the precedent of Joseph Deiss in 2004: “there will be no river crossing today, only crowd baths!”
In his address to the public, he quotes Léon Savary’s pamphlet “Voulez-vous être conseiller national?” and its portrait of the ideal candidate of the 1950s: Radical, Protestant, lawyer, major. “Here again, how far we have come!”
On 6 July, the theme is the European Year of Cultural Heritage: the BirdLife nature centre at La Sauge, then the Helvetian oppidum on Mont Vully. The outing ends with a meeting with the public in the hall of the Oelberg hydroelectric power station in Fribourg.
