Director General,
Excellencies,
Dear Delegates,
Honoured guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome to Geneva – the global health capital – for the seventy-second World Health Assembly.
Tonight, it is a great pleasure to welcome you for the first time on the Campus Biotech.
At the heart of what we call our “Swiss Health Valley”.
The Health Valley stretches from Geneva to Basel, Bern and Zurich.
And it is an exceptional concentration of companies, research centers and initiatives dedicated to developing innovative health solutions.
Hosting our traditional reception on this campus, highlights our commitment to link health diplomacy with innovation and research.
The potential of digital technologies in improving public health has been widely acknowledged.
We appreciate the efforts of the World Health Organization to provide a sharper focus on innovation and digital technologies.
Technological progress has to be part of our commitment to achieve universal health coverage.
But we need to remain vigilant.
Innovative approaches need to be affordable, sustainable and reach all parts of the world, leaving no one behind.
We also need to ensure we construct these solutions together with the public and respect privacy.
Here in Geneva we are working on building bridges across nations, organizations and sectors to tackle global health issues.
This is International Geneva.
This is the Campus Biotech: a perfect illustration of Switzerlands multiple facets.
Tonight you have the opportunity to explore a sample of innovative projects. Please visit the stands show-casing some of the best projects Switzerland has to offer.
I wish you stimulating discussions after this intense opening day.
Thank you for coming and a joyful evening!
