Capital Region Switzerland Forum

At the forum of the Capital Region Switzerland, Alain Berset pokes fun at the caution of the Mittelland: the Solothurn “S’isch immer so gsi”, the Bernese “Nume nid gsprängt”, the historian Fritz René Allemann’s mistrust of “Gstürm”.

And yet, a vision. He defends it against the suspicion of naivety: Switzerland has also known phases of historical acceleration, from 1848 to the nuclear phase-out. That Berne was not classified as a metropolitan region was, in his view, a stroke of luck: it forced the five cantons to cooperate. “Die Hauptstadtregion ist eine realistische Vision.”
