Inauguration of the EUMETSAT ground station in Leuk

In Leuk, Alain Berset inaugurates the new ground station of EUMETSAT, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, operated together with MeteoSwiss. Its three 6.5-metre antennas will receive data from the third-generation satellites, whose volume will be more than ten times greater.

In his speech, he stresses the value of European cooperation for more reliable forecasts and for anticipating extreme events; participation in EUMETSAT, he points out, keeps Swiss research connected at a time when Switzerland is excluded from Horizon Europe. Switzerland bears around 3.5% of the costs of the organisation, which has 30 member states.
