Official visit to Liechtenstein
At the invitation of Hereditary Prince Alois, Alain Berset is received with honours at Vaduz Castle. He then meets the head of government, Adrian Hasler. More than 100 treaties bind the two states; more than 9,000 Swiss cross-border commuters work in the principality every day. On the agenda: the European policy of both countries, the free movement of persons, Brexit, cooperation at the UN and at the International Criminal Court. The President also meets ministers Aurelia Frick (foreign affairs, justice, culture) and Mauro Pedrazzini (health and social affairs).
One concrete result: young people from Liechtenstein will be able to take part in the “Youth and Music” programme. Before the press, he pays tribute to a small state with weight: the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over the crime of aggression owes much to Liechtenstein. In the evening, at the dinner hosted by the Hereditary Prince and Princess, he returns to the tax “grey list” that had strained relations the previous autumn: “Lieber eine schwarze Piste als eine Graue Liste.”
