Opening of the 16th International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights
The same evening, Alain Berset opens the 16th FIFDH before some 500 guests from International Geneva and Greater Geneva, alongside Pascal Crittin, Director of RTS. Opening film: “Fortuna” by Germinal Roaux, just presented at the Berlinale.
The year marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. His speech starts from Martin Luther King and the “dream”: human rights remain an ideal as long as no independent judge sanctions their violation. He reviews recent films that illustrate the Declaration, article by article: “Detroit”, “A Separation”, “Timbuktu”, “The Post”, “I, Daniel Blake”, “Mustang”. “Cinema is said to be a dream factory. Why should it not also work as a factory of freedoms?”
