Swiss Performing Arts Awards 2023
At LAC Lugano, as part of FIT – Festival Internazionale del Teatro, the Federal Office of Culture presents the Swiss Performing Arts Awards. The Grand Award / Hans Reinhart Ring goes to the choreographer Cindy Van Acker. Among the other winners: Circus Monti, the Tellspiele Altdorf, Bruno Cathomas, Tiziana Conte; the dance award to Ruth Childs for “Blast!”, the theatre award to Theater Neumarkt.
Alain Berset announces that this is his last cultural awards ceremony. Since 2012, he says, he has only ever been able to say “bravo”; so he finally gives his own “acceptance speech”, addressed to Hans Reinhart. He starts from a sentence by Hermann Hesse on the spiral path and defends cultural spending: “every public franc given to an artist represents a sustainable investment plan for society”.
He closes by awarding three rings of his own: to the Federal Office of Culture, to the performing arts that came through the health crisis, and to the evening’s audience.
