Minister,
Honourable guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,

An influx of refugees has put Bangladesh and the international community under enormous pressure to provide the most urgent services to over 650,000 people.

The families that are arriving are seeking safety and shelter, but the region’s fragile infrastructure is already overstretched.

Sadar District Hospital provides much needed medical treatment to patients from the host community and to those who have made the perilous journey to safety.

“Shu-ho sho-kaal.”

I would like to express my great appreciation for the enormous efforts being undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh to welcome and host the communities from Myanmar.

Switzerland’s contribution to the health facilities in Cox’s Bazar is a joint achievement resulting from coordination with the governmental authorities, specifically the Deputy Commissioner and the Civil Surgeon, international partners, and most importantly the World Health Organization and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society.

The Swiss Embassy in Dhaka extends its special thanks to all staff and management at the hospital.

Despite their heavy caseloads, Superintendent Doctor Pu Chaw Nu and Doctor Shaheen were always available for discussions to define the most effective way for Switzerland to assist the hospital.

Thanks to the excellent support and assistance given to our humanitarian aid expert by each and every member of staff at the hospital, I’m delighted to officially hand over Switzerland’s contribution to this important health facility.

I wish Sadar District Hospital every success and hope the support received through this project will benefit the entire community of the Cox’s Bazar district.

Thank you!
