3rd Life Sciences Cluster Forum of the Basel Chamber of Commerce
At the 3rd Life Sciences Cluster Forum of the Handelskammer beider Basel, “Zusammenarbeit als Schlüssel für ein nachhaltiges digitales Gesundheitswesen”, in the Gehry auditorium on the Novartis campus, Alain Berset speaks after the welcome by the Chamber’s President, National Councillor Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter, and a presentation by Ann Aerts of the Novartis Foundation. He talks about the Basel pharmaceutical hub and digital health. A cluster, he says, is a very Swiss paradox: competitors who grow stronger by strengthening the others. He compares it to the Federal Council.
The health system does not suffer from a lack of digital technology but from a lack of coordination; he cites nine different codes for the female sex. Hence the DigiSanté programme and the health data space, to which the pharmaceutical industry must contribute. He concludes on the longevity of the Basel location, at the world’s top for 150 years: its success factors are “weder analog noch digital. Sondern real”.
