Television address for the Day of the Sick

The President of the Swiss Confederation addresses the population for the Day of the Sick on 4 March. The theme of the year: “Taking time”, for the sick and for one’s own health. The address, in French and German, is filmed at the paediatric neurorehabilitation centre in Biel/Bienne, which looks after children with disabilities by the day and by the week.

Alain Berset speaks about family carers. Some 270,000 people care for a relative without pay. “The health sector has neither the financial resources nor enough nursing staff to carry out the tasks that family carers take on every day.” He announces proposals under the Health2020 strategy, including long-term leave for parents of seriously ill children. He concludes: “But don’t forget to take time for yourselves.”
