Centenary of the Swiss School in Milan
1 October 2019
Alain Berset travels to Milan for the hundredth anniversary of the Swiss School. He is received at the Pirellone by the authorities of the Lombardy Region, including the President of the Regional Government, Attilio Fontana, and recalls that Italy is the homeland of Swiss schools abroad: the first was founded in Naples in 1839.
In the school courtyard, he quotes Orson Welles’s line in “The Third Man” on the Borgias and the cuckoo clock: “Gli italiani sono dei geni – gli svizzeri dei noiosi. Ci completiamo a meraviglia!” He gives the school a ginkgo tree. He also visits the Fondazione Prada.
